Shivpuri National Park

This national park is home to more than 22 species of mammals, including protected wildlife such as the clouded leopard, leopard cat, Assamese macaque, and pangolin.

Approximately 311 species of birds can be found in the park, among which 177 species are migratory. In addition, around 102 species of butterflies and insects have been recorded here.

Located close to Kathmandu city, the park stretches from Chisapani in the east to Kakani in the west. Initially established as the Shivapuri Watershed Area in 1989, it covered an area of 144 square kilometers. In 2002, it was declared Shivapuri National Park, and later in 2008 (B.S. 2065), the Nagarjun area, covering 15 square kilometers, was added — forming the current Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park with a total area of 159 square kilometers.

According to the park authorities, its average width (north to south) is about 9 kilometers, and its length (east to west) is approximately 20 kilometers. The highest point, Shivapuri Peak, reaches an elevation of 2,732 meters.
