From the northern slopes of Shivapuri, one can witness the majestic views of the high Himalayan range stretching from Dhaulagiri to Kanchenjunga. To the south, from Panidhalo, Dhap Pokhari, and Hile Bhanjyang (which lies about two kilometers below the Kathmandu Valley), a glittering panoramic view of the valley can be seen.
Looking northeast from Shivapuri National Park, not only can the smiling Himalayas be seen up close, but the lush and peaceful forests of Shivapuri, symbolic of beauty and tranquility, also continually draw the eye — this is one of the park’s special features.
Just two kilometers below Dhap Pokhari, the proposed Nagmati Dam is expected to become another major destination for domestic tourism. The 158-ropani area under development in Dhap is being established as part of the Bagmati Watershed Conservation Project.
The national park, which stretches from Chisapani in the east to Kakani in the west, was originally established as the Shivapuri Watershed Area in 1989.
